- Cosmetics
Many popular startup cosmetics brands have shown the world that quality doesn’t have to be pricey. However, this sector is tricky, because what counts as “high-quality” in cosmetics varies from person to person. Some people will just be looking for a long-lasting lipstick, for example, while others will be looking for a lipstick that contains certain ingredients deemed good for the skin.
2. E-Readers
New e-reader brands competing with the popular Kindle offer basically the same thing at much lower prices. An e-reader doesn’t need a lot of fancy bells and whistles to be of high quality. However, be aware that some cheap versions might lack features customers want, such as Wi-Fi connectivity.
3. Razors
Successful new razor startups like Dollar Shave Club show that good razors don’t need to cost extra. You can find lots of great disposable razor brands at a fraction of the price of drugstore brands. Reusable safety razors are also trending right now. Although they cost more initially, they help people save money over time, and appeal to consumers who want to cut down on waste.
4. Fitness Trackers
The brand-name Fitbit faces competition from many other fitness trackers at a fraction of the price. The features will differ depending on which brand you look at, but people certainly don’t need to pay top dollar for a nice, basic fitness tracker.
5. Cookware
Many consumers seem willing to pay for name-brand cookware that features lifetime warranties and trendy materials. However, lots of low-end cookware offers very competitive quality. As long as the materials and construction are good, the cookware will be too. A cast iron pan is a cast iron pan, no matter what it costs.
6. Headphones
Customers who don’t care about the brand name on their headphones will be happy with a well-performing cheap pair. Many inexpensive headphones and earbuds have great consumer reviews.
7. Blenders
Name brands like NutriBullet might popularize certain types of blenders, but it doesn’t take long for other brands to start making good dupes at better prices. As long as a blender blends well and is easy to clean, the brand doesn’t matter.
8. Phone Cases
It’s amazing what some people will pay for a simple phone case. But lots of cheaper versions can offer the same sleek look and phone protection. If people know a less-expensive case works just as well, they’ll probably be glad to buy it.
