In the last couple of years, the word "dropshipping" has become one of the most used business words. Basically, it is an avenue for entrepreneurs into e-commerce to run stores online without having to go through the stress of stocking items.
It affords them an opportunity to sell a wide variety of products with minimal investment. While dropshipping has become the go-to business for entrepreneurs seeking to venture into e-commerce (because of the minimal capital requirements), there are certain problems that they have to take to heart.
Some of these problems include but are definitely not limited to these;
1. How to get more sales;
while most entrepreneurs start on the right foot when it comes to dropshipping, they have had to deal with getting more customers. Currently, there are millions of drop shippers on various platforms each seeking to reach a target audience.
With a large number of drop shippers offering customers the exact products as you, it would become difficult to get the right customers, which in turn makes it difficult to make sales. Be prepared for major disappointment initially. I would conjecture that more money is made from those teaching dropshipping courses than from actual dropshipping!
2. Order processing delays;
this is one of the main problems that new drop shippers have had to deal with. Most times when an order is received from the store and is placed with the producer, you will find out that it could take a longer period of time for it to be processed and the tracking code sent to the customer.
Most drop shippers have lost clients simply because of order processing delays. When there is a delay in your orders, it is advised that follow-up immediately. It is important that you bear in mind that each order is processed in about 24 hours, so if you do not hear from the producer within that time, it is advised that you immediately write to to them.
3. Having the wrong items sent to the customer;
Having the wrong product sent to your customer is every drop shippers nightmare. It leaves a bad impression on the customer, especially if it is his/her first time. This could happen if the producers have two different products that bear the same name or logo.This could either be your fault or that of the producer.
It is advised that before you choose a supplier, you have to know their return policies. This will ensure that once this problem occurs, you can easily send them back for the right item. Irrespective of whose fault it is, sending the wrong items to your customer is bad service and could ruin the image of your business.
4. Returns
This can be a big issue and partly related to 3) above. If the return rate is above 5%, it will kill your already razor thin margins. You need to think this through before you invest the effort in generating sales.
