I've experimented with ClickFunnels and will soon be moving our products from 1ShoppingCart. ClickFunnels promises ease of use and a clean UI and is a well thought out product.
I wouldn't say it is a Shopify replacement if you have a traditional ecommerce operation with lots of SKUs. But it can really help you 'merchandise' the hell out of a few of your core offers so that you can get better conversion rates.
Just like Home Depot, Walmart and other physical stores invest a lot in 'merchandising' (the way you present your products on the shelves and strategic positioning of top sellers) you can do the same thing online.
And then once you attain significantly better conversion rates for your core offers, you can easily do 1-click-upsells and dramatically increase your average order value. This can transform your business if you are a smaller ecommerce merchant.
I've found that most small ecommerce merchants do not understand direct response marketing techniques and have never heard the term CRO (Conversion Rate Optimization). They copy what the big brands do, not realizing that the big brands succeed in spite of their poor merchandising--using minimalist pages with little copy. Or cute and clever, meaningless slogans.
ClickFunnels was built by Russell Brunson, a highly successful direct response marketer. As he likes to say, he hired developers to build it because he is not technical and wanted an easy way to build lots of funnels fast. And the product excels at doing this with its drag and drop landing page builder and pre-built common templates. If you are familiar with Unbounce you can think of it as a hybrid between unpounce and a payment solution.
From their website:
ClickFunnels Came Out Of Nowhere - They took the market by storm, just like Apple did when they launched the iPhone. It was a QUANTUM move in improvement that opened up the gap to allow people just like you and me - who are NOT technically savvy and weren’t born in the matrix, who don’t have a chip planted in our heads, who aren’t engineers or computer science majors and don’t understand that stuff inherently - the opportunity to cut and decrease the time of stress and anxiety and suffering behind the keyboard.... And ultimately to deal ONLY with the stuff that matters, which is getting your message about your product and program out to the marketplace.
Russell knows his audience and likes to pander to them by claiming to be a tech ignoramus who built a $100 million company. And it works!
You could attain the same functionality with Shopify by using plugins such as Zipify, but there is nothing quite like the ease of use and convenience of ClickFunnels. And because they can monetize better than anyone else (thanks to Russell's merchandizing skills) they keep investing in improving the platform. Their competitors who raised $100 million plus (compared to their bootstrapping with a $1000 limit credit card) have all fallen by the wayside!
At the very least, I'd recommend trying it since they offer a free 14 day trial.
As for the glowing Testimonials, that is because ClickFunnels pays affiliates really well! They are all competing to get the high commissions and car payments i.e. the top affiliates get to choose their dream car and have ClickFunnels handle the payments per this page. By the way, the link to the ClickFunnels site is not an affiliate link.
Several ClickFunnels affiliates have earned cars, per this page from their affiliate page:
