Since white labeling and affiliate marketing haven’t historically crossed paths in the eCommerce world, there is no sleek, simple solution that will seamlessly meet your needs. The best way to reach your goal with the resources currently available would be to order from a custom packaging provider, through which you can offer unique packaging designs for each affiliate.
This may become more complicated than it’s worth, since there’s no easy way to automate this process. Shipping goods for each affiliate purchase in the corresponding custom packaging is sure to add time and money to your process.
However, you can simplify the process some by offering limited customizability. For example, perhaps every affiliate product ships in an unmarked box, but sealed with that affiliate’s uniquely branded packing tape, or marked with a branded sticker. Or, you can have a different box design for each affiliate.
If you do decide to go this route, here are some custom packaging retailers to consider.
Salazar Packaging offers a “Semi-Custom Packaging” option that might be perfect for your needs. The semi-custom option keeps prices down by using existing tooling plus a touch of unique design. If your products fit into one of Salazar’s stock packaging choices, you could use the semi-custom feature to add affiliate logos to each package.
Packlane’s custom packaging solution has small minimum order requirements, which would make it easy to order a small amount of packaging for each affiliate. The quick shipping times would also make restocking each affiliate’s packaging easier. On Packlane, you can choose between a few standard box styles, select the size, and then add a unique design.
Similar to Packlane, Packwire offers custom box designs. With an order minimum of just 10 boxes, it’ll be easy to order the right number for your affiliate purchases. Again, this packaging supplier only does boxes, so if you have different packaging needs you’ll have to look elsewhere.
Although it may not look as exciting as a branded box, a branded sticker on a plain box would allow for custom affiliate packaging with less money and effort. You’d be able to use the same basic packaging for each affiliate order, and simply add the corresponding sticker to make it branded. Vistaprint sells product label stickers in quantities as low as four, so you can order only what you need for each affiliate.
Sticker Mule is also a resource for custom sticker labels, but offers branded packing tape as well: another solution that’s likely to cost less than custom boxes. The minimum size is a 100-foot roll, but Sticker Mule does offer free four-day shipping, so you can quickly restock when needed.
White labeling products for affiliates is an innovative idea, and one that could catch on in coming years, leading to sleeker solutions. But for now, there’s no simple way to let your affiliates select custom packaging on their end, without extra effort from you.
You would need to work with a custom packaging provider to create designs for each affiliate, which could get expensive and time-consuming. You’ll be placing more packaging orders to offer something custom for each affiliate, and if an affiliate stops working with you, you could find yourself with useless branded packaging on your hands. However, if this leads to a significant up-tick in affiliate sales, it may be worth the effort.
