Etsy vs. Shopify. Does paying the 8.5% commission result in customers?
Etsy charges 8.5% commission on sales, in addition to 20 cents for listing. Shopify charges $30 monthly and then 2.9%.
Did Etsy help you get customers? That seems to be their promise. That they are a marketplace with people browsing for stuff and therefore you needn't invest as much effort finding your own customers.
Did the customers materialize? If not, we might as well go with Shopify. We are not going to spend money acquiring customers to send them to Etsy.
