Answer Question
Does having your content used for Google's "Knowledge boxes" help your site ranking?
I came across this article about Google 'stealing' content from other sites and using it for their "knowledge boxes". The "knowledge box" is the box that appears on the "right rail" with a summary about the thing you are searching for.
Example of a "Knowledge box"
They are composed by sourcing content from Wikipedia and other sites considered by Google's algorithms to be authoritative.
In the above article, Genius Media has the best song lyrics because they get them directly from the artistes. Google uses their content and displays it in the "knowledge box" depriving Genius of site visits!
Obviously this is bad for Genius but does Google then rank your site higher, if they use it as a source for their knowledge boxes? After all, it is an acknowledgement that you have the best content for the user's query.
A related question is: If having your content used for knowledge boxes is a net positive, are there things you can do to increase the likelihood of this happening? If it is bad (fewer search visits), what can you do to stop it?
