Answer Question
Are used clothes/apparel marketplaces like The Real Real and StockX a fad or are they here to stay?
Recently lots of used clothing websites/marketplaces have emerged (see The Rise of the Hand-Me-Down). The RealReal just went public at a $1 billion+ valuation and StockX (the sneakerhead marketplace) boasts a similarly lofty tag. But they are both losing money so far and it feels like the days of daily deals sites, most of which came crashing down when it became clear they could never make money! Used clothes are labor intensive as each piece must be inspected, cleaned and photographed individually and so it is hard to see how they will make money. Is it a passing fad or long term trend?
