Human nature has not changed much in 100 years. A young marketer would do well to read some of the classics from the old masters.

Breakthrough Advertising by Eugene M. Schwartz (It is out of print and used copies sell for $100 plus but it is well worth it. If you only read one book on direct response copywriting this book should be it.)
Scientific Advertising by Claude Hopkins
Ogilvy On Advertising by David Ogilvy
Visual Persuasion by Stephen Baker (also out of print but you can get it used)
The Ultimate Sales Letter by Dan Kennedy
