Airtable is a cloud-based relational database that offers ease of use and functionalities that are lacking in Excel or Google Docs. If you just want to perform calculations, then Excel is great but if you want to store and track data, then Airtable is your best bet.
Airtable combines the best of spreadsheets and database into one intuitive and easy to use business application.
Benefits andfunctionalities of Airtable–
Cost: Airtable is free to start. If used for individual or personal database, does not require an upgrade to a paid option. If used for business, may require an upgrade
Simplicity: Very intuitive, easy to learn the functionalities and to use
Business Roles: Can be used for different business purposes including CRM, Sales & Marketing, Products, Services, Operations, Accounting, Leadership Roles, Project Management
Role Based Access: Can give access and permissions to both internal team members and external stakeholders to collaborate
File Types: Airtable allows embedding of other file types including – notes, text files, audio, video, images, etc. This is one of the most powerful features of Airtable
Templates: offers hundreds of templates based on role/function. Examples include – marketing campaign tracking, product catalog, product launch, product planning, event planning, bug tracker, social media calendar, etc. Options include – selecting a template, creating your own from scratch or importing a spreadsheet.

I used it for a software project where we wanted to have a database without a server. Airtable allowed that to happen. And thanks to its web interface, it gave us an excel like CMS right out of the box. Our admin team found the UI to be very user friendly. The one thing that might be complicated is I don't know if Airtable has all the built in data manipulation functions of Excel. But it does allow you to do some object oriented and object relational stuff which is pretty cool. You might also want to look into Google Data Studio.
