Hi Nordic-Merchant,
Here are a few thoughts:
- The experience for new ecommerce sites will vary wildly. If you have a well established brick and mortar presence, you can expect more traffic than a no-name business launching only online, because people will likely be familiar with your brand and already searching it.
- The high add-to-cart bounce rates: By all means figure a way to survey these bouncing visitors and watch their behavior. It is a pain to do, but this can be one of the most profitable things you ever do! Tools like Mouseflow and Hotjar can help with this. We recommend Mouseflow because they record every visitor by default. Hotjar (as of last year) samples, because they haven't built the infrastructure to handle the volume. We do not recommend Fullstory because it has lots of issues. Review the survey responses and watch the video sessions of those who spend, say at least 3 minutes on the site, click add to cart and then bounce. Once you understand why visitors are bouncing, it is relatively easy to figure out a solution. Some common examples:
Some examples/remedies we've seen for high cart abandonment rates include:
1. A high level of anxiety: Add security seals and testimonials, offer 30 day refunds and free shipping both ways.
2. Clunky user or mobile experience: Invest the development and design resources to improve this. Page load time can be especially huge.
In your case, even though as a US visitor, I am not allowed to order, I used a workaround and here is what see:
a. For mobile, I am first prompted for my billing details before I see a summary of what I am buying. I would guess that reversing this order could reduce your cart abandonment. People generally want a recap of what their buying before entering their payment details.
This...
Followed by this:
b. Lack of security seals. Various studies have shown that these can increase conversion rate, but first thoroughly understand your bouncing visitors (using the process recommended above).

Hi @Jasper. Sorry for our delayed response to this. We are of course very grateful for your help and will look into adjusting the site according to your feedback. For now we already use Hotjar, but we will definetly look into Mouseflow as well. Best regards
